Designer Of The Week: Mataano

Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen better watch out because it's new fabulous fashion twins in town! Designer identical twins Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim launched their own fashion line in Spring of 2008. They are generated major buzz for their youthful and colorful collections call Mataano meaning "twins" in Somali.

The beautiful Somali-born twins lived in their home country until age 9 before fleeing with their family to escape an escalating civil war. They settled in Virginia completing their college educationl; Ayaan at University of Michigan and Idyl at Boston Inversity. The twins worked in the fashion indusry; Ayaan at Jill Stuart and Tse, while Idyl at Betsy Johnson before launching their own line.

The talented duo were featured on Oprah Winfrey showcasing their wonderful designs. I absolutely love the vibrant colors and chic silhouettes of their spring collection and the modern 1920 vibe from their fall 2009 collection. I am so delighted these sisters are being recognize for their hard work and sensational collections. I can certainly see Halle Berry, Kerry Washington or Garcelle Beauvias-Nilon rocking their garments on the red carpet. Life is so unfair because these divas are gorgeous and talented, talking about envy!

I totally agree that life is unfair. I saw them on Oprah and I was blown away with their incredible designs.

Am I missing something? It's really not anything special about their clothes.

I totally disagree with anonymous. Their clothes are simple and elegant without the bells and whistles.Designing simple clothes are much harder than over-the-top pieces because everything has to be perfect.
